The perfect weekend in El Born, Barcelona (Day 2)

MISTY BARKER

I’m the friendly foodie in El Born, Barcelona.

Sunday:

So how are you feeling!?… Was it a long night! I would love to know how you finished your perfect 1st day in El Born. Make sure to comment below and let us know how you got on!… Did you find any hidden little gems, we would love to hear about your Barcelona adventure.

Okay, so I know, you may be a little tired (possibly hungover) but it’s okay! It’s Barcelona, chances are there is a few others in a similar position, plus, let’s face it – you’re on holidays!… there’s no such thing as a hangover! Right, time to get moving, are you ready for the day ahead? I have a lot of very cool places in store for you today. Lots of things to do and see in El Born!

Vamos!

2 days in El Born, Barcelona

“You have to taste a culture to understand it.”

DEBORAH CATER

The best chocolate factory museum in Barcelona

11.00 (I hope you appreciate the lie-in I just gave you!)

The Chocolate Museum (Museu de la Xocolata) Carrer del Comerç, 36, 08003

What better way to start the day than a coffee & some chocolate, right!? This place is just perfect. A small 30mins stroll through its exhibition and you will come out knowing all about the origins & production of this endorphin bursting food. Wander as you smell the sweet notes of chocolate that drift through every corner of this little treasure. Learning & nibbling as you go.

Okay, so we all love brunch don’t we!? It’s an excuse to drink cava by noon and sit in the sun. It is the perfect early afternoon activity in my mind… and so we have found the perfect place to experience it in all its finest. As you stroll through the beautiful local square behind the Chocolate museum you will surface at Alsur Café. Welcome to the perfect brunch stop.

12.30 Alsure Café – Plaça de Sant Cugat, 1, 08003

So I hope you are feeling nicely fed & watered (maybe even cured the hangover with a nice cava or two!) This spot is great for people watching & relaxing away a lazy afternoon in El Born. Especially on Sundays where you can even feel the difference in the speed of the day – it’s relaxed & chilled… perfect!

14.30 Sight-seeing – but not as you know!!

Mosey around and visit one of the great cultural points that El Born has to offer. From The Picasso Museum to the El Born Centre de Cultura i Memoria in the heart of Passeig del Born. You will be spoilt for choice. I love the Cultural Centre because of its deep rooted history. In the 1870s it was home to the main market (Mercat del Born) for the area & when it began to become dilapidated works began to build a library on the the site. BUT… the plot thickens of course, in 2002 whilst building they found old ruins of the medieval village that was on that exact site before the defeat of Catalonia in the war of succession in 1714. Now when you visit you will see these preserved ruins, an awesome bookshop & a quirky café that does some awesome sweet treats too. Bonus!!

“If more of us valued food & cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

J.R.R TOLKEIN

Keep your mid-day wander fueled and why not stop for a bite to eat en route? Just around the corner lies El Fabrica. A cool Argentinian owned stop that makes the best Empanadas in EL Born. (Plaça de la Llana, 15, 08003) With so many varieties the mind boggles. Grab & go what takes your fancy.

Is it a library, a jazz bar, a social house, a restaurant?!….

ALL OF THE ABOVE

Best Barcelona Vermouth and jazz

After your wanders begin to come to an end my favourite place to stop by is Story. (Carrer del Pou de la Cadena, 8, 08003) This place is incredible. Originated as a ‘library’ and is now a super cute Jazz bar & social club. Their tapas are modern and fresh and served impeccably. From the second you walk in I assure you that you won’t want to leave. Their vermouth is incredible – as is their cheese board! Try them – thank me later! 😉

18.00 Tired yet? Me too! Time for a late siesta…

If you have boundless energy head to the old square off Carrer de la Princesa and grab a cocktail in a really cute place where you will rarely find tourists. What’s even better is there a playground right in the centre, which is ideal for people travelling with children. Upiaywasi – Carrer de l’Allada-Vermell, 11, 08003 ( they’re cocktails & cheese boards are pretty special!)

21.00 – Born Voraz – Carrer de la Princesa, 33, 08003

Well, it’s been an eventful two days hasn’t it! But I am sure that you have created some memories that will last a lifetime. That is what it’s all about it. That is what makes me do what I do. And now for your final evening in EL Born. And for the final venue. This place is nested in the centre of Carrer de la Princesa. (Top Tip: Their door needs a good push to enter!) I saved the best for last. This place never disappoints. From the minute I entered this place I loved it. The wines are as incredible as the menu, and the staff as passionate as the food.

What makes this place unique is not only the quality of their dishes but the quality of the kitchen & floor staff that they hire.

Their chefs are all young and creative & each form a different county. Each brings a different style to the food & presentation and they do not disappoint. From the aubergines to the fois, the paella & pulpo, right down to the last detail in their take on traditional crème catalan. Amazing.

Can’t decide what you want?!… just ask any of the staff, they are all experts on every detail of their menu – both wine & food. And their wine list is as long as it is great! Trust me on this one.
